How Tree Care Pros Take Down Trees Quickly

If you’ve ever watched an arborist at work, it can be quite amazing. It tends to remind you of how much a simple tool like a chainsaw can make an impact on something large, like a tree. If you’re wondering how professionals are able to cut down trees easily, you’re going to learn their process below.

Tree Inspection and Removal Planning

One of the very first things that professional arborists do is to assess the state of the tree. During this process, they look for cracks, decay, or other issues that could make the tree and its root system unstable. At this point, they’ll also determine the exact cuts that they’re going to want to make in order to bring down the tree.

Depending on the state of the tree and its height, professional arborists will formulate a plan for the necessary tools they need to bring the tree down. In some removal cases, this might be as simple as sending a climber up the tree to slowly cut it down into pieces. In other cases, there might need to be a crane or bucket truck to help lower down each piece.

Prepping the Site

On the day that arborists decide to come out and remove the tree, they’re going to have to prepare the site properly. This involves setting a clear path for workers to maneuver pieces on the ground and putting necessary equipment, like a crane, into position. If there are any objects on the ground, such as patio furniture or play toys, they will be removed from the area so they don’t get damaged by falling tree pieces.

The Cutting Begins

Once the site has been properly prepared, it’s time for arborists to get to work. If they’re going to be climbing the tree, you’re going to see them connect a loop around the tree as well as a series of pulleys to help raise and lower equipment. With traditional cutting, arborists will cut the smaller branches coming out of the trunk on their way up to the top.

Once they reach the apex of the tree, they’ll cut in a notch. Then, they’ll completely lob the top of the tree off. Arborists will work their way down the tree, cutting branch after branch until the remaining stump is small enough to be cut from the ground. At this point, they’ll simply climb down out of the tree and cut the tree at its base to remove the remaining tree.
